Days out near Crawley
Crawley gets a bad press. The stuff around it doesn't deserve to. Crawley is one of those towns that people drive through on the way to somewhere else. Which is a shame, because what's around it — once you actually stop and look — is genuinely good for families. Tilgate Park is ten minutes from the town centre and has a nature centre, a farm, a lake and enough walking trails to wear out most age groups. It's free. It's large. It works. Go Ape is in Tilgate too, which means you can do the free version with younger kids and the paid version with older ones on the same visit, which is either excellent forward planning or a complete accident depending on how organised you are. Buchan Country Park is a few minutes west and has the kind of quiet woodland that feels genuinely restorative when you've spent too long in a soft play. For indoor days, Crawley has decent coverage. Clip n Climb is the standout — proper fun for kids who like heights and a parents area that's more than an afterthought. Hollywood Bowl is there for the days when you need something low-stakes and reliably fine. The county mall has a soft play attached if you need to combine activities with actually getting something done. Fishers Farm Park is 25 minutes west and worth the drive when you want a full day rather than a couple of hours. It's one of the best farm parks in the South East and it's close enough to Crawley to make it a reasonable trip rather than a commitment. Between Tilgate, Buchan and what's on the doorstep, you're not short of options.
