Waterwise Playground is a simple outdoor play area by the sea in Sussex, more of a handy family stop than a destination with bells and whistles. Reviews suggest it’s especially appealing for toddlers and younger children, with a pirate theme and enough equipment to keep them busy for a decent runaround. The big wins are the free parking, the seaside setting and the fact it’s free to use. Parents also liked being able to sit back while children played, and there’s sometimes an ice-cream, coffee or doughnut van nearby, which is never exactly a hardship on a sunny day. The downsides are the ones that matter to parents: no toilets on site, the nearest loos are about a 10-minute walk away, and the road is close with no surrounding fence, so little ones need watching. A few pieces of equipment apparently need attention or have been removed, and one review raises a serious hygiene concern about the food van, so I’d be cautious and not rely on the catering being consistent.
